Hunza and Baltit with the blossom
Overview
An eight-day trip through the Hunza and Nagar valleys during the apricot and cherry blossom, usually late March into April. Road-based, graded easy, and the one trip in our catalogue whose dates are set by the trees rather than by us.
When does the blossom actually happen?
Broadly the last week of March through the third week of April, moving up the valley with altitude — the lower Hunza terraces around Aliabad and Karimabad flower before Gojal, and Nagar runs a little behind Hunza. A warm March pulls it forward by a week; a cold one pushes it back. Anyone selling you a fixed blossom date is guessing.
What we do instead: we run departures across the whole window, we watch the valley through our own people in Karimabad, and we tell enquiries in February which week is looking strongest. We also plan the itinerary to move up and down the valley rather than sit in one village, so a group that arrives slightly early or late still finds trees in flower somewhere.
What you see besides blossom
The valley in spring, which is a different place from the valley in summer: snow still low on Rakaposhi and Ultar, the terraces green and pink, far fewer visitors. Baltit and Altit forts in Karimabad, Duikar for sunrise, Attabad Lake, Passu glacier and the cones, and the Hopar glaciers across in Nagar.
The Khunjerab Pass is usually still closed for winter at blossom time. We do not put it on this itinerary and pretend otherwise.
How hard is it?
Easy. All road, no trekking required, nothing above about 2,700 m on the standard route. Nights are cold in March — below freezing in Karimabad — and the hotels are heated but not uniformly well, so bring warm layers rather than spring clothes.
Who it suits
Photographers, first-time visitors who want Hunza without the summer traffic, and anyone travelling with family who still wants the valley at its best. It is also our most popular trip with Pakistani travellers, which means March and April book early.
What is inside the price
All permits, transport on our own vehicles with our own drivers, hotels in Hunza and Nagar, all meals, fort entries, and a guide on our payroll from the valley. Medical kit, satellite comms where the signal stops and a written evacuation plan as on every trip we run.

Private departures and group pricing
Your party, your dates. The per-person figure falls as the party grows, because the guides, the vehicles and the camp cost the same split more ways. Everything in the inclusions list applies, and the safety standard is the one published above.

Safety, evacuation and insurance
Helicopter rescue in the Karakoram is not guaranteed. Weather, altitude, daylight and clearance all decide whether a helicopter flies, so every stage carries a named drive-out or walk-out plan. Your insurance must cover helicopter evacuation and repatriation to the maximum altitude on your itinerary, and we verify the certificate before the trip starts.
A graded medical kit sized to the trip, oxygen, a portable altitude chamber, a satellite phone and a messenger, and a wilderness first responder in the crew.
The lead guide’s decision to turn back is final. Not a guest, not an agent, not this office — whatever has been paid.

Questions people actually ask
When exactly is the blossom?
Roughly late March into April, moving up the valley as the season climbs — Hunza before Nagar, Nagar before Gojal. The exact window shifts with the winter and nobody can promise a date. We watch it and tell you what we are seeing.
What if we miss it?
It is a real risk and we will not pretend otherwise. We time departures on what the valley is actually doing rather than on a published date, and if you can keep your dates flexible by a few days, do.
How cold is it?
Mild days and cold nights, with changeable weather. Bring layers. The heating in the valley is better than it was but it is not everywhere.
Is it busy?
Increasingly, with domestic visitors especially at weekends. We build the itinerary around that — the terraces early, the forts when the coaches have gone.
Is it suitable for a family or older travellers?
Yes. Short walks, uneven ground in places, comfortable nights. Tell us ages and mobility at enquiry.
Can we combine it with anything?
The Karakoram Highway down to Islamabad, or the cold deserts in Baltistan. High trekking is still shut at that time of year, which is exactly why this trip exists.
