Trekking and climbing in Pakistan: what to know before you filter
The season runs roughly April to October, with June to September the reliable window for the Baltoro and every 8,000 m objective. Blossom travel in Hunza and Skardu falls between March and May; autumn colour arrives from mid-September. Winter travel means southern Pakistan and Hunza rather than the glaciers.
Access shapes every itinerary here. Islamabad to Skardu is a short, weather-dependent flight or a long, reliable road, and we quote both with a buffer day either way. From Skardu, Askole is several hours of rough 4×4 road, and it is the last roadhead before the Baltoro. Mountaineering and trekking visas require an agreement with a DTS-designated operator and take roughly four weeks, so filter by month with that lead time in mind. Peak royalty applies above 6,500 m and is charged per climber.
